Who We Are

Halesworth Town Council consists of 12 elected members who serve for a four-year term - the next elections being held in 2027. Full Council meetings are held in the Day Centre, The Old Court House in London Road, usually on the first Monday of each month (please check the calendar of meetings to confirm). The attendance of members of the public is welcomed.
The Town Council has a major role in acting as a 'watch-dog' for the town and in reporting matters to the principal authorities at East Suffolk Council and Suffolk County Council .The Council is consulted on all Planning Applications and the delivery of other services to Halesworth. The Council supports local voluntary bodies; can initiate cultural, leisure and environmental projects and can secure funding from outside bodies for the benefit of local initiatives. The Council is also responsible for three allotment sites and the local Wednesday Market in Halesworth.
The Town Council has few powers but does its best to influence decisions taken by the District and County Councils for the benefit of Halesworth and its residents.
In the near future, it is planned that East Suffolk Council will pass on responsibility to HTC for the management of the Town Park, further play areas and open spaces, the public toilets and the Old Court House building in which it is housed.
